New Imaging Technology: The Intraoral Scanner

Did you know the most important part in the fabrication of a crown is the impression? The Costa Rica Dental Team continually strives to obtain the newest technology for greater precision and efficiency in the creation of crowns and bridges. This time we decided to replace the traditional impression methods with the CS3600 intraoral scanner. This device allows us to take a high-definition digital scan of your teeth in just a few minutes. You will not have to go through the discomfort of waiting five minutes with a tray filled with impression material in your mouth, which is one of the most uncomfortable parts of teeth prepping.

How does it work?

The intraoral scanner is a handheld device connected to a software that recollects thousands of continuous images and integrates them into a full HD 3D image of your teeth. The dentist simply goes over all your teeth and the scanner picks up all the data which then uses to create a digital model. The dentist does not even need to touch your teeth to do so. After this, she will take a bite registration. She will scan the way your teeth fit together when you bite. The next step is to send the files to the lab, which has the software to open and manipulate the scan. With this information, it is able to digitally design any porcelain prosthetic and the fact they work with the same file the doctor revised makes the impression almost error-free.

What are its advantages?

For the clinic, the intraoral scanner has many benefits. Its precision standards far surpass traditional cast models, which means final crowns will require less adjustments, less margin for error, and less waste. In dental tourism, we value this even more in order to keep turnaround times reasonable. The CS3600 also synchronizes with our computerized tomography software, for a complete, digital file of your hard bone and soft tissue anatomy.

For the patient, the impression process will involve less discomfort and chair time. The heightened precision of the scanner will keep crown adjustments and remakes to a minimum. This represents fewer appointments and no surprises.

The intraoral scanner is still an avant-garde technology in Costa Rica; only the best clinics work with it. Our team decided to obtain it in accordance with our mission to offer a superior dental experience. Dentistry is moving quickly towards a digital world that we do not want you to miss out on.
